The Galileo Affair
Просмотров 2 тыс.День назад
By Dan Schwartz The Galileo Affair is widely viewed as the classic example of a scientific genius being persecuted by religious dogmatists. Yet, in recent decades, some philosophers and historians of science have put forward a new interpretation that defends the Church’s position philosophically and puts (at least some of) the blame for the conflict on Galileo. Is there any merit to this view? ...

    Anxiety and suffering come from holding two contradictory values. If you just follow Friedman, you may run a great business, but you feel guilty and vulnerable to attacks by those who want to steal your wealth. One needs rational egoism and capitalism as values not Christian self-denial and a rational work ethic. Most people don't want to or don't know they can examine the source of their emotions. In time, more people will come around to Rand's breakthrough in concept formation and egoism.

    The morality is that we are free to pursue our own happiness so far as it doesn't interfere with others and their rights, it is this balance that is hard to achieve without sacrificing ourselves or somebody else.

  • @glennjohn3824
    @glennjohn3824 4 часа назад

    Wrong. Milton couldn't understand morality and Ayn understood its importance but tried to separate morality from its source; God. Morality comes from God, FOR the individual. Group morality is evil because we're not a group. Randians hate God because they have no way to know Him or even what "Christians" are because the ones they encounter are hypocrites and liars... but ya gotta dig deeper than that, and you won't, until you reach the end of your own tale... either literally or figuratively. Truth, Love, Life, Principle, Intelligence... these are some aspects of God and all are unreasonable. You can only know through experience and how can you experience those aspects unless you submit yourself to them? This is the foundation of morality, not the mind, not everyone else's opinions not your family, friends or society... Truth never changes. Love it. Stay conscious, stay free🙏❤️🇺🇲

    If these maps are accurate, then are the people using this map stating that palestine gave up their land, because on the first map, israel never existed. So next question is how did israel came into being, and how did palestine become an encampment within israel. Common sense about world geology will show that these maps and their alledged timeline makes no sense, logically, nor geographycally. How stupid can people be, in this informative age. Mis-information and propoganda comes from all directions, there is no absolute. For centuries lands have changed names, occupation, boundaries, no one truly owns no lands, eapecially not any religious zealot bodies.

    Well, OK, but since Rand was wrong in her epistemology, you cannot blame others for not going along with her other pronouncements. Ayn Rand did make some excellent points, but as a whole she is a failure, philosophically speaking. She was intellectually lazy and did not bother looking at alternatives. But good on her, at least, for promoting the very notion objective morality. That is a great achievement by itself. She just did not get the content of that morality quite right.

      You are incorrect in your accusation. Israel was established legally in accordance with the current international laws and standards, not based on their over 3,000 year history in the land. The Jews legally purchased land from the previous landowners, and established the modern state of Israel on it, then the Islamists attacked Israel without provocation, forcing Israel to drive them back to establish defensible borders. Israel never attempted to "ethnically cleanse" the land of Arabs, and even one-fifth of all Israeli citizens are Arabs, living among the Jewish Israelis with full rights and privileges equal to the Jewish Israelis. Arabs lost the right to lands when they supported death-cults that used it to attack Israeli civilians. The wall around Gaza was defensive, as was the blockade, both for the purpose of limiting the Gazan death-cult, Hamas's ability to murder Israelis. It's objectively not an apartheid, because as already stated, 20% of all Israeli citizens are Arabs who live within the defensive walls alongside the Jewish Israelis. There is no legitimate point of similarity between Israel and the Nazis. In sharp contrast, Hamas literally had copies of "Mein Kompf" in their terror tunnels. Israel doesn't target civilians. Hamas uses civilians as human shields to maximize the civilian casualties as Israel strikes back at Hamas. Hamas also lies about the demographics of the casualties, lumping in their fighters with the civilians.

They came to Palestine and found hospitality but again they driven out by the Palestinians to Egypt (why?). From Egypt they driven out by Pharaoh, (why?) and then on their return to Palestine which was under the Roman empire, they had the worst relations with the Romans. Later, in Europe too, Napoleon had a very big and serious problem with them. Let's go now to Hitler and the German war, where you know the rest here, but Really why?!. History can't be changed. And by that I don’t mean in the literal sense that Rand is long gone but in the sense that for some reason, politically motivated no less, they have to fight against what they see as an infiltration of Randian philosophy into popular political culture. There IS NO infiltration of her philosophy into culture today. Who the hell is drumming to her beat? They are picking on her precisely BECAUSE there is nobody in any significant number who will defend her when unfairly misrepresented. There isn’t even a loud vocal minority! Sadly she’s obviously being used as a scapegoat in a weak attempt to contrast with his own world view. Peterson is fighting a ghost. So brave Mr Peterson, so brave!

    Dude! It was Palestine. All green. Green is green whether it was habitable or not and no excuse are permitted. Go back to the British and when they gave it back and made it all green. So, the solution is for (Palestine takes it back)or for Israel to give it back to what it was, which is all green, Palestine. Let the Israelis stay where they are as guests, or join up together and pay taxes to Palestine. Problem solved.

    • @lennardchurch8483
      @lennardchurch8483 17 часов назад

      The British Mandate included all of what is now Israel and Jordan. The British gave the Arabs permission to create their own state, and the Arabs created Jordan, but made no attempt to create a separate state west of the Jordan River. Objectively, no state of "Palestine" ever existed, and the British had the right to offer for the Jews to create a country in that land for which the Arabs didn't act on the offer. Israel was legally established on land the Jews legally purchased from previous landowners, so there's literally no legitimate argument against Israel's rightful existence as a sovereign state. And every expansion Israel has had of its borders was a consequence of the Arabs attacking them without provocation, and Israel responding by driving back the aggressors to establish defensible borders, which is a legal acquisition of land under the international laws of war. So Israel isn't "occupying" someone else's land, because it's now legally Israel's land, because they adhered to international laws and standards when they acquired it. Also, anyone with two brain cells to rub together can understand that the Arabs in Gaza and the West Bank have proven that they can't govern themselves without electing a death-cult to rule them that will constantly attempt to murder as many Jews as possible, without any regard to how many Arab deaths their attacks cause.

When the Jews returned they used irrigation and fertilization to make the deserts bloom, revitalizing the land so it could support a much larger population. And Israel hasn't instigated a single war since it was re-established. All of the devastation in Gaza is a consequence of the Arabs there electing a death-cult to rule them, and giving that death-cult decades to entrench itself under every aspect of their civilian infrastructure, like a metastasized cancer.

    @2:31 Elan Journo answers his own question "Is there such a thing as Palestinian land..." with a lie, saying "No, there isn't." Well I beg to differ. In the clandestine 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement, Britain & France determined who was to get what parts of the failing Ottoman Empire after its anticipated defeat in WW1. In the 1917 Balfour Agreement, France ceded Palestine to the British Mandate shortly after WW1. Fundamentally the British reneged on their promise to provide a national STATE for ARABS in what is now Palestine, in return for Arab support against the Ottomans, who were aligned with the Central Powers (Germany, Austria, Hungrary). Very significanlty, the agreement only talks of a "national homeland" for Jews, NOT a state. QED

    • @lennardchurch8483
      @lennardchurch8483 17 часов назад

      You're cherry-picking to paint a false narrative. No state or country of "Palestine" ever existed in all of recorded history. The Romans created the name to refer to a territory in their empire as part of their effort to erase Israel from history, and no conquering power to acquire the land since ever created a country/state within that land. And when the British acquired the land, the territory they called "Palestine" included all of what is now Israel and Jordan. So when the British gave the Arabs permission to establish their own country in that land, the Arabs created Jordan. Then when the British gave the Jews permission to establish a country in the land, they created Israel. Then the Arabs spent decades attacking Israel without any legitimate provocation, losing, and getting pushed back as Israel seized land to establish defensible borders, which is a legal acquisition of land by Israel under the international laws of war. That means all of what is now Israel is objectively and legally Israeli land. No one else has any legal claim to it.
